New Delhi: In ICC Champions Trophy match 12, India triumphed over New Zealand by 44 runs, with the Rohit Sharma-led team set to play against Australia in the semi-finals at the Dubai International Stadium.
Varun Chakravarthy took five wickets to lead India to a 44-run victory over New Zealand, securing the top spot in Group A of the Champions Trophy. India will now face Australia in the semi-finals, while the losing team will take on South Africa. Kane Williamson was New Zealand’s highest scorer, contributing 81 runs as they chased down a target of 250 in their final group-stage match against India.
Earlier, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner won the toss and chose to bowl first at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday. Matt Henry claimed five wickets, and New Zealand impressed with their fielding, particularly with outstanding catches from Kane Williamson (to dismiss Ravindra Jadeja) and Glenn Phillips (to send Virat Kohli back). After India was reduced to 30/3 by the seventh over, with Rohit Sharma (15), Shubman Gill (2), and Virat Kohli (11) all getting out cheaply, Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel steadied the innings. Shreyas scored 79 off 98 balls, while Axar contributed 42 before both were dismissed, leaving India at 172/5.
