Team India will look to share the honours in the five-match Test series against England and leave English shores with a win in the fifth Test starting at the Oval in London in Thursday. A few days after their heroic performance to draw the 4th Test in Manchester – when they managed to bat for majority of two days after conceding 311-run first-innings lead – they will be full of confidence of turning the tide in their favour.
Hosts England will miss the services of their talismanic skipper Ben Stokes, ruled out with injury, and will be led by No 3 batter Ollie Pope. They have made three more changes of their playing 11 from Manchester – deciding to drop Jofra Archer, Liam Dawson and Brydon Carse and bring in Jacob Bethell, Guy Atkinson, Josh Tongue and Jamie Overton for the game at the Oval.
India, on the other hand, will in all likelihood miss the services of their premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who is expected to be replaced by either Arshdeep Singh or Prasidh Krishna. They will also miss their vice-captain and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, ruled out with fractured foot, and will be replaced by Dhruv Jurel.
According to media reports, Team India is also set to drop all-rounder Shardul Thakur and bring back Karun Nair to bolster their batting a ‘green’ Oval track while Akash Deep will replace Anshul Kamboj.
Team India will have happy memories of the Oval, where they have won twice in 15 attempts – in 1971 and 2021, under the captaincy of Virat Kohli.
