The five-match Test series between India and England is at an interesting juncture at 1-1 after the first two Tests at Leeds and Edgbaston. Home side England won what appeared to be an ‘unloseable’ Test for Shubman Gill’s side at Leeds but the visitors bounced back to win the second Test at Edgbaston by 336 runs last week.
The two sides will now lock horns in the third Test starting at Lord’s in London from Thursday. The Indian team will receive a massive boost with their bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah available for the third Test after skipping the last game. In the Mumbai Indians pacer’s absence, Akash Deep put on a fabulous show, claiming his maiden 10-wicket haul in Tests. He was backed up by Mohammed Siraj, who was the pick of the bowlers in the first innings of Edgbaston Test with a six-wicket haul.
But the real match-winner for India was their skipper Gill, who piled on a record 430 runs in the second game, following up on his 147 on captaincy debut at Leeds. Gill smashed 269 and 161 runs and is the leading run-scorer in the series with 585 runs from just 2 games. In fact, the Indian captain needs only 390 runs in the next three Tests to go past Sir Donald Bradman’s record of 974 runs in a Test series.
Ben Stokes-led side have tried to bolster their bowling attack for the Lord’s clash by adding pacer Jofra Archer to their playing 11. The Rajasthan Royals fast bowler is playing his first Test match after a gap of 4 years but should add much-needed firepower to the English attack by replacing Josh Tongue.
