DC vs LSG IPL 2025 Match No 5 LIVE: Axar Patel’s Delhi Capitals will begin their campaign against Rishabh Pant-led Lucknow Super Giants at Vishakhapatnam on Monday.
It will be the first grudge match of the IPL 2025 season when Delhi Capitals take on Lucknow Super Giants in match no. 4 in Visakhapatnam on Monday. Delhi wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant will go up against his former side as he makes his first appearance in the T20 league after LSG bought him for a whopping Rs 27 crore at the mega auction last year.
Pant left the Delhi side after joining the franchise back in 2016 with some bad-blood. GMR Group will be taking all the team-related decisions in the IPL with co-owners JSW taking a back seat and with that in mind they decided to take away the captaincy from Pant, who had not led DC in the last two season after his horrific car accident in December 2022.
DC will have a new captain in charge with left-arm spinner Axar Patel taking over from David Warner. With Pant playing for LSG, Lucknow’s former captain KL Rahul has swapped places and will turn out for the Delhi side. All indications are that Rahul will probably start this game but will miss a couple of matches for DC next week for the birth of his first child with wife Athiya Shetty.
With Warner not being picked, Australia’s Jake-Fraser McGurk will have a new opening partner in Faf Du Plessis, who is also the vice-captain of DC side this season. Australian Mitchell Starc will be the biggest addition to the side and the home team will be hoping for some early wickets from the pacer.
LSG, on the other hand, will miss the services of pacers Mayank Yadav and Avesh Khan, although all-rounder Shardul Thakur has joined the squad to replace Mohsin Khan.
