New Delhi: Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Ishan Kishan had an unusual exit during the match against Mumbai Indians on Wednesday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. He left the pitch without being given out and without any appeal from the opposition, only to later realize that he was actually safe. The strange moment triggered a wave of criticism from fans online, with many even doubting his honesty and calling the dismissal suspicious.

The moment took place on the opening delivery of the third over when Deepak Chahar bowled a delivery that drifted down the leg side to Ishan Kishan. The wicketkeeper caught the ball and was preparing to return it when the umpire initially signaled it as a wide. However, almost instantly, he reversed the call and raised his finger after noticing Ishan walking back to the pavilion. Interestingly, there was little to no reaction from the Mumbai Indians players, including Chahar and skipper Hardik Pandya, who seemed more concerned about whether the delivery would be called wide.

Hardik rushed over to Ishan to acknowledge his ‘spirit of cricket’ gesture with a pat on the back. But the replays later revealed that there was no edge on the snickometer, leaving the SRH batter visibly frustrated and regretting his decision in the dressing room.

The bizarre incident left fans confused and then angry, as they accused Ishan of “match-fixing.”

Sunrisers Hyderabad, known for their strong batting in IPL 2024 when they ended as runners-up, have seen a major dip in form this year. The same batting unit has struggled in IPL 2025, with the 2016 title holders securing just two victories and currently sitting in the ninth position on the league table.

After being asked to bat first, Sunrisers Hyderabad had a shaky start, managing only 24 runs while losing four wickets in the initial six overs. It marked the first instance in over a decade that they had lost their top four batters for under 20 runs. The situation could have turned even more disastrous, with the team on the verge of a historically poor total in IPL history. However, Heinrich Klaasen rescued the innings with a blistering 71 off 44 deliveries. He teamed up with Abhinav Manohar, who added a steady 43 from 37 balls, as the duo built a fighting 99-run partnership. SRH eventually posted a total of 145 for seven in their allotted 20 overs.
