New Delhi: On Saturday, July 5, Shubman Gill equaled a special record of Virat Kohli. He has become the second Indian captain in Test cricket history after Virat Kohli to score three centuries in his first four innings as captain. Earlier, this achievement was only in the name of Kohli.

When and who scored two centuries in the first two Tests?

There have been a total of seven players in history who have scored two centuries in their first two Test matchesVijay Hazare, Jackie McGlew, Greg Chappell, Sunil Gavaskar, Alastair Cook, Steve Smith and Dhananjay de Silva. Virat Kohli made his Test captaincy debut against Australia at the Adelaide Oval in 2014 and scored 115 runs in the first innings and 141 in the second innings.

What has been Shubman Gill’s captaincy performance so far?

Gill started his captaincy career in the Leeds Test against England, in which he scored 147 runs in the first innings and 8 runs in the second innings. After this, in his second Test, he scored 269 runs in the first innings. On July 5, he once again scored 161 in the second innings of the Edgbaston Test and thus scored his third century in his fourth innings as captain.

What big records did Gill make?

With this century, Gill became the second batsman of India and the ninth batsman in the world to score both a double century and a century in the same Test. Before him, only Sunil Gavaskar had done this feat from India. In Test history, he is the second captain after Graham Gooch to score a double century and a century in the same Test.

Gooch scored 333 runs in the first innings and 123 runs in the second innings against India in the Lord’s Test in 1990.

If Shubman Gill completes a total of 400 runs in this Test (he has scored 369 runs so far), he will become the first batsman of India and the fifth batsman in the world to do so. Before him, this achievement has been achieved by Graham Gooch, Mark Taylor, Kumar Sangakkara and Brian Lara.
