New Delhi: India’s T20I wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson expressed his desire to see the iconic MS Dhoni play a bit more cricket in the years ahead. Although the former Indian captain has retired from international cricket, he continues to make headlines, with many speculating that his retirement could be approaching sooner than expected.

However, Samson, like many Indian cricket enthusiasts, wishes to see Dhoni continue playing for as long as he can. A video shared by PTI Videos features Samson expressing his wish for the former CSK captain to extend his cricketing career.

“I was thinking in my mind and when people keep talking about ‘when is he retiring?’ In my head, I was thinking ‘Thoda aur bhi hai’. That’s the example that I had in mind. Everyone here I think if you ask them the same question, I think the Indian mentality is to get ‘thoda aur’,” he shared at an event.

Dhoni, who still plays for Chennai Super Kings, has seen a significant change in his role within the team. Since the inception of the Indian Premier League, he has led the Chennai-based franchise as a wicketkeeper-batter, usually coming in to bat in the middle order.

Over time, however, Dhoni has transitioned into a specialist finisher, while the captaincy has been handed over to Ruturaj Gaikwad from Maharashtra. Despite ongoing injury concerns in recent years, many had anticipated the ODI World Cup-winning captain might retire. However, he has yet to make any such announcement.

Sanju Samson, hailing from Kerala, has established himself in the T20I squad as both the opening batter and India’s primary wicketkeeper in the format. He started off strong in his recent appearances, but his form dipped during the recent T20I home series against England.

Samson recently had surgery on his finger and is expected to return in the upcoming IPL season, where he will once again captain the Rajasthan Royals. It remains to be seen whether he will continue to open the batting or revert to his usual role at number three, as he has done for the franchise in the past.
