On January 29, 2020, Rohit Sharma unfurled a blistering batting performance that propelled India to a win against New Zealand in the third T20I, Set at Seddon Park, Hamilton, after the scores tied at 179 runs, they had to go to Super Over for a decision on the result on the victorious side.
Batting in this high-pressure match in the final over with nine runs to score to win, the Kiwis matched India’s first innings total. With his first innings performance having left a positive mark, Rohit Sharma was on fire yet again in the Super Over, helping India pull off a miraculous win. Rohit Sharma departed the field after a superb knock of 65 off 40 balls. Six fours and three sixes decorated his innings. During the run chase, the then New Zealand captain Kane Williamson executed an astonishing half-century. He struck eight boundaries and six maximums on his way to 95 runs scored off 48 balls.
India, having two of their bowlers take two wickets each, could not get to New Zealand’s target of 20 overs blessed with Kane Williamson’s brilliant batting. Team Kiwis needed some extra time; they matched India’s score of 179 runs in 20 overs. Therefore, this match had to be decided with the Super Over rules.
