New Delhi: India is set to field its largest-ever contingent in the third edition of the Yonex-Sunrise India Open BWF World Tour Super 750, taking place from January 14-19, 2025. The tournament will feature top stars, including Olympic champions Viktor Axelsen, An Se Young, and world No. 1 Shi Yuqi. Promising a thrilling display of skill and precision, this year’s event will unite the best players and passionate fans for an unforgettable badminton spectacle, marking a grand celebration of the sport’s excellence.

This Super 750 event has become a flagship competition organized by the Badminton Association of India. Elevated to a Super 750 status in 2023, the tournament is part of the BWF World Tour, offering a prize pool of USD 950,000 and 11,000 points for the champions. It will be held at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall in the Indira Gandhi Stadium, providing an exciting stage for top badminton talent from around the world.

This edition of the BWF World Tour Super 750 event will feature a strong contingent from host India, with 21 entries across various categories: Men’s Singles (3), Women’s Singles (4), Men’s Doubles (2), Women’s Doubles (8), and Mixed Doubles (4).

“The 2025 Yonex-Sunrise India Open highlights the growing prominence of Indian badminton on the global stage. With a record 21 Indian entries, this is a clear sign of the rise of Indian players among the world’s best. As we enter this exciting year, more emerging talents will shine alongside established stars, bringing pride and glory to India. The competition at IG Stadium will showcase the caliber of Indian players,” said Sanjay Mishra, General Secretary of the Badminton Association of India.

In the past two Super 750 editions, India had 14 entries, with notable performances from Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, who reached the men’s doubles final, and HS Prannoy, who made it to the men’s singles semi-finals in 2024.

India will be looking to its top shuttlers for a strong performance at the 2025 Yonex-Sunrise India Open, with key players like 2022 men’s singles champion Lakshya Sen, two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu, and the accomplished duo of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy.

The competition is set to be fierce, with only two top-20 ranked men’s singles players absent, while 14 of the world’s top 20 women’s singles players will compete in New Delhi. The doubles categories could bring surprise results, as several top players are either retiring after the Paris Olympics or changing partners.

Indian fans will be especially focused on Chirag and Satwik’s performance, with Satwik returning from an injury layoff and keen to prove himself after a limited post-Olympics appearance. The men’s doubles lineup is stacked, with China’s Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang, Malaysia’s Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, Denmark’s Kim Astrup and Anders Rasmussen, and Indonesia’s Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto all in action.
