In a crucial contest, Shami made an instant impact by dismissing CSK opener Shaikh Rasheed for a golden duck. The delivery, showcasing perfect seam alignment, caught the outside edge of Rasheed’s bat and was comfortably taken by Abhishek Sharma at slip. This marked the fourth time Shami has claimed a wicket off the opening ball of an innings in the IPL, a record no other bowler has matched in the league.
Mohammed Shami’s record of first-ball wickets in the IPL dates back to 2014, when he sent Jacques Kallis packing in Dubai. In 2022, he produced a beauty to dismiss KL Rahul at the Wankhede Stadium. The following year, Phil Salt became his third first-ball victim in Ahmedabad. Now, in the 2025 season, Shaikh Rasheed becomes the latest name added to this exclusive club. Though Shami made headlines with his record-breaking wicket, the season as a whole hasn’t been smooth for him. Across eight games, he has picked up six wickets, averaging 48.16 with an economy rate of 10.70. His standout effort so far has been a 2 for 28 spell, underscoring his battle to maintain form and rhythm.
Regarding the match, SRH chose to field first after winning the toss. CSK’s batting effort lacked momentum, with frequent fall of wickets disrupting any flow. Still, two young batters offered moments of promise. Dewald Brevis stood out with an explosive 42 from just 25 balls, featuring one boundary and four massive sixes.
