There is a proverb that states willpower can lift you out of poverty and oppression – and Sujit Madhav, a son of Bihar, is a shining example. Sujit, a government school student, cracked the JEE exam through willpower.
Sujit Madhav hails from the Sheikhpura district of Bihar. He comes from a very poor family. His father is a small farmer, and his mother is a homemaker. Whatever little money his family received was mostly spent on bare food and daily needs. His father often worked as a labourer to support the family’s income.
Sujit’s father had taken out a loan to send him to Kota to attend coaching classes. In the meantime, his mother’s health had been declining. Then, in 2023, right before Sujit was to take his 12th-grade exams, Sujit got notified that his mother had suffered from a brain hemorrhage, forcing him to return home temporarily.
After encouragement from his family and elder brother, he went back to Kota. Despite his mother’s illness and the family’s financial struggles, Sujit, under the guidance of his teachers, performed well in his 12th-grade exams.
Last year, Sujit’s mother was further struck by a serious and life-threatening illness like cancer, which added to the family’s medical expenses and increased the financial burden on them.
Sujit studied in a government school, scoring 85% in 10th grade and 81% in 12th grade. Impressed by his academic performance, a private coaching institute in Kota offered him 70% fee waiver and the institute’s director provided him accommodation without charging rent. Sujit Madhav took his first step toward becoming an engineer by scoring a 98.555 percentile in JEE Mains. In JEE Main 2025, he achieved an All India Rank (AIR) of 22,268 and an OBC category rank of 5,625.
By clearing the tough JEE exam, Sujit has set an example for children from poor and underprivileged families who aspire to change their circumstances. Sujit is now on his way to becoming an engineer and improving his family’s financial situation. His remarkable achievement has brought great joy and pride to his family.
