New Delhi: Kuldeep Yadav responded to a fan of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) who suggested he join the team as a goalkeeper by mocking the team’s ongoing difficulties. He pointed out that RCB has not secured a trophy despite participating in the IPL since its beginning and having reached three finals. The team has not appeared in an IPL final since 2016.

“You don’t need a goalkeeper, you need a trophy brother,” Kuldeep said while responding to the fan. Kuldeep is a former IPL champion with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He began his IPL career with KKR in 2014 and remained with the team until 2021.

Under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir, KKR triumphed over Punjab Kings in the IPL 2014 final, securing the championship trophy for the second time. Their initial title victory came in 2012 when they overcame Chennai Super Kings in the final.

RCB has been a participant in the IPL since it started but has not secured a championship title. Their inaugural final appearance was in 2009, where the team, captained by Anil Kumble, was defeated by Adam Gilchrist’s Deccan Chargers in the final held in South Africa.

In 2011, they participated in their second IPL final. The Chennai Super Kings made history by triumphing over RCB in the final match, becoming the first team to secure consecutive IPL championships.

In 2016, RCB reached their next IPL final, where they were defeated by Sunrisers Hyderabad, led by David Warner. Since that match, RCB has been facing difficulties in maintaining their performance.

Under the captaincy of Faf du Plessis, the team reached the second round of the IPL in both 2022 and 2024, but they were unable to secure a place in the final. Prior to the IPL 2025 mega-auction, RCB let du Plessis go and chose not to place a bid for him. He subsequently signed with Delhi Capitals during the auction.
