New Delhi: Sri Lanka’s all-rounder cricketer Kamindu Mendis delivered a sensational fielding moment in the IPL 2025 showdown between CSK and SRH, pulling off a catch that’s already being hailed as one of the finest of the tournament. His incredible athleticism stunned the Chennai crowd as he removed the in-form Dewald Brevis, who was having an impressive debut outing for the Chennai Super Kings.

Displaying incredible athleticism, Kamindu Mendis ran a considerable distance from the long-on area, sprinting in at full speed. He launched into a perfectly timed dive to intercept a flat, powerful shot from Brevis that looked certain to race toward the cover boundary. Choosing a safe two-handed grab over a flashier one-handed effort, Mendis held onto the ball cleanly as he completed the dive and tumbled over. Rising to his feet, he confidently raised the ball to signal a flawless and stunning catch.

The spectacular moment took place in the 13th over, with Harshal Patel bowling a full-length delivery wide of the off-stump. Brevis, who had earlier smashed a short ball for six over the covers, went for a repeat, aiming another flat shot in the same region. But Kamindu Mendis’ brilliant fielding effort halted his fiery knock, dismissing him for a well-made 42 off just 25 balls.

Just an over earlier, Kamindu Mendis had conceded three sixes to a rampaging Dewald Brevis. Yet, he showed incredible calmness under pressure, staying focused while patrolling the boundary line. Brevis, stunned by the sheer brilliance of the catch, looked toward the umpire for confirmation of its validity. The on-field official immediately ruled it a clean take, sparking wild celebrations among the SRH fans as Brevis, who seemed set for a big innings, had to walk back to the dugout.

Before Brevis was dismissed, young Ayush Mhatre offered a brief spark with a brisk 30 off 19 deliveries during the powerplay. However, key players failed to capitalize, Sam Curran coming in at No. 3, could only score 9 from 10 balls, while Ravindra Jadeja added 21 off 17 without making much of an impact. MS Dhoni also found it difficult to build momentum, eventually falling for just 6 runs off 10 balls in the 17th over, adding to CSK’s batting struggles. The team finished with a modest total of 154.
