Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill commended his team’s performance following their convincing 58-run victory against the Rajasthan Royals.

New Delhi: Gujarat Titans’ captain, Shubman Gill, attributed their successful start to the IPL season (four wins from five matches) to the team’s overall strong performance and contributions from all players. Their recent victory against Rajasthan Royals, a 58-run win, was secured by Sai Sudharsan’s impressive half-century and a combined bowling effort.
Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 58 runs. GT scored 217 runs for the loss of 6 wickets before bowling out RR for 159 in 19.2 overs.
“Good total put up. It was not easy, the first three fours overs, it was nipping. Sai and Jos batted tremendously. We’d take 220 any day,” Gill said at the post-match presentation.
“Everyone is chipping in, that’s the hallmark of a great team. If you are having difficulties in choosing who would be your man of the Match, then that is a good problem to have. And that’s been our hallmark as a team – everyone contributes, chips in and good for us,” he added.
Gill expressed satisfaction with his bowling team’s performance to date, stating that they had simplified his role as captain.
“Very pleased. When you have got bowlers like we do, captaincy becomes easy especially since the form all our bowlers are in. Whosoever I bring in, they are just happy to take wickets and contribute,” he said.
Twenty-five-year-old Gill, a relatively young member of the Gujarat Titans team, was asked about any potential pressure from senior players. “Everyone is very nice. We have got Ishi bhai (Ishant Sharma), who has played 100 Tests for us, everyone is super nice,” he said.
Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson attributed his team’s loss to approximately 15-20 extra runs conceded during their bowling innings. “We planned something but they executed something else. We will have to look at that tomorrow,” said Samson who made 41 from 28 balls.
“When we needed momentum we lost wickets. With Hettie (Shimron Hetmyer), sixes and four kept coming. But I lost my wicket and that’s where we lost the game.
“The way Jofra started was good, he picked up Shubman’s wicket. Then we went off plan.”
