The Moradabad district of Uttar Pradesh appointed senior Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma as the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) on January 27 for her immense contribution to the country as a cricketer. Thereafter, it was Sharma who took to Instagram on Wednesday, January 29, and expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the Uttar Pradesh government for the honour bestowed upon her following her reception into the ICC ODI and T20I teams of the year for women.

“I’m utterly thankful for this feat that I have attained! I owe it to my family, whose constant support and blessings have made it possible,” Sharma put on his Instagram update.

“I’m also thankful to the Uttar Pradesh Government for this opportunity to serve. I assure you that I’ll completely dedicate myself to my duties and serve with integrity in my new position as DSP in the Uttar Pradesh Police. Thanks again for your encouragement,” Sharma added. Sharma is only the second Indian cricketer in recent history to be appointed to the role after Mohammed Siraj, who, after the T20 World Cup 2024 victory with the national side, had become DSP in Telangana.

Sharma finished last year as the maximum wicket-taker in women’s ODIs with 24 scalps, and in 2024, she again took 30 scalps in T20Is. During the year, Sharma won the Hundred with the London Spirit and also made some handy contributions with the bat. Now, having had the Women’s Premier League close to her, Sharma will hope to continue her form for the UP Warriorz and make a strong bid for the title after two missed seasons.

This will be a very important year for the women’s team with a home ODI World Cup scheduled, especially after T20 World Cup disappointment last year in Dubai and the players will be looking at bettering that situation.
