After surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record in the 3rd Test, Joe Root creates history again by breaking Don Bradman’s long-standing home Test century milestone.

New Delhi: England batsman Joe Root scored his 38th Test century on the third day of the fourth Test being played against India in Manchester. With this brilliant innings, he once again maintained his record-breaking form. Root played a tremendous innings of 150 runs off 248 balls, giving England a strong lead on the fourth day of the match being played at Old Trafford.
Most Test centuries against India
It was Joe Root’s 12th Test century against India, taking him past Steve Smith’s tally of 11 centuries against the same opponent.
New record in home Tests
This was Root’s ninth century in Test matches played against India in England. He set the record for scoring the most centuries against a single team in home Tests and surpassed Don Bradman’s record of eight centuries.
23rd Test century in England
This was Root’s 23rd Test century in England, taking him to joint first place with Ricky Ponting, Jacques Kallis and Mahela Jayawardene in the list of batsmen with most centuries in home Tests.
Second most runs in Test cricket
Root surpassed Ricky Ponting to become the second-highest run-scorer in Test cricket history.
Moves to fourth in Test centuries
Joe Root equalled Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara to become the fourth-highest century-scorer in Test cricket. He is now only behind Ricky Ponting (41), Jacques Kallis (45), and Sachin Tendulkar (51).
In response to India’s 358 runs, England’s openers started briskly, showcasing the ‘Bazball’ style of play. With the help of Joe Root’s magnificent 150, England stretched their lead to 186 runs by the end of Day 3. Now, England will be hoping to bat for at least one more session on Day 4 and score as many runs as possible. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that England have looked like the most dominant side in the fourth Test so far.
