The IPL 2025 season will get underway in Kolkata on Saturday (March 22) in just a few days time but all the 10 captains of the Indian Premier League teams have been summoned by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to be present at the cricket board’s headquarters in Mumbai on Thursday (March 20).

The BCCI have called a critical pre-season meeting for the IPL 2025 captain to apprise them about various changes in the T20 league this year. According to a report in Cricbuzz website, the gathering is scheduled for noon at the BCCI headquarters in Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday. In addition to the captains, managers from all 10 franchises have also been invited.

According to the emails sent by the BCCI/IPL management, the meeting — essentially a briefing — will take place at the Cricket Centre and will last for an hour. Teams will be updated on new rules and changes for the upcoming season. Following the briefing, sponsor activities are planned at the Taj Hotel in Mumbai.

The entire event will span four hours and will conclude with the traditional pre-season photo shoot featuring all the captains. While such meetings and photoshoots are usually held in the city hosting the season opener – in this case Kolkata, the decision to hold it at the BCCI office suggests there may be discussions beyond the usual rule briefings.

All team captains have been confirmed, with Axar Patel recently appointed as Delhi Capitals’s skipper. The other nine captains are – Hardik Pandya (MI), Pat Cummins (SRH), Ruturaj Gaikwad (CSK), Rajat Patidar (RCB), Rishabh Pant (LSG), Shreyas Iyer (PBKS), Sanju Samson (RR), Ajinkya Rahane (KKR), and Shubman Gill (GT).

Most captains have already joined their teams, including players who participated in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Australian Pat Cummins, for instance, arrived in Hyderabad on Sunday. The Aussie pacer has assured his full availability for the season, despite the World Test Championship (WTC) final at Lord’s beginning on June 11 — just two weeks after the IPL 2025 final on May 25.

The IPL 2025 season kicks off on March 22 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, where defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
